Medal Type: WW1 - World War 1 Pair

Service No: 1770

Unit No: 12 Light Horse Regiment

Corps/Service: Mounted/ Lighthorse/ Cavalry

Country: Australia

Sale Price: $0

During July 2015 my uncle's First World War medals were purchased by an unknown buyer on eBay. The medals consist of the British War Medal and Victory Medal of Trooper Herbert MITCHELL, Service Number: 1770 Rank: Private Roll title: 12 LHR [Light Horse Regiment] - 8 to 23 Reinforcements (May 1916 - November 1917) Conflict: First World War, 1914-1918 Date of embarkation: 02 May 1916 Place of embarkation: Sydney Ship embarked on: HMAT Hororata. A20. Medals Gone Missing actually made a bid on my behalf but unfortunately we were outbid. If the person who won the auction would be kind enough to consider selling the missing war medals back to my family, we would be extremely grateful. At the time of the auction, we had no idea that the price of the medals would go for so high. My uncle had no children and we are his closest relatives. We had no idea what happened to the medals after his death, however we had been searching for over 20 years and have no idea how they left our family. The medals were sold by a dealer on eBay. We fully appreciate that the medals were won quite fairly - however we would be overwhelmed if the new owner should be so kind as to allow us to purchase them back. Yours gratefully. Paul.

W.SNOWDEN

W.SNOWDEN
Medal Type: WW1 - First World War Victory Medal

Service No: 19316

Unit No: Lincolnshire Regiment

Corps/Service: Infantry

Country: United Kingdom

Sale Price: $0

My family is attempting to locate the missing First World War Victory Medal of our relative, Private Walter SNOWDEN. We are in possession of his British War Medals, but we believe the Victory Medal went to Australia in the 1950's with his sister, our great auntie Annie (nee Snowden). Walter SNOWDEN had the service number 19316, and was a member of the Lincolnshire Regiment. Walter survived the war but died of his wounds 20 years later at the age of 40. He lived in Sheffield and Epworth in England, possibly other places as well. We would be very happy to learn that the Victory medal is still in family hands. That would be great news especially if it had a lot of sentimental meaning to them. If however the medal is in the hands of a collector / dealer we would be very interested in purchasing the medal. He was only entitled to a pair. Both myself and my brother have served in the British Army and this medal is of tremendous importance to us.
