British Medal Roll index card does not state in which theatre of war he served. His British War Medal and Victory Medal were issued 18 June 1920, Nottingham and the Silver War Badge was issued “sick Para 392 xvia”. Edwin was born 11 September 1891, Lancashire and was the son of Edward & Catherine (nee Donoghue) GOWLAND. Edwin originally immigrated to Australia, aboard Devon, disembarked Sydney 23-04-1911 – unable to locate his return to England where he enlisted nor his return after war ended. He married Grace Alice Mati CORRIE, 1925 in Victoria and he died 04-11-1969, Footscray, Victoria and buried Altona Memorial Park. I am searching for the missing First World War medals of my father, Norman Culling CROGHAN 1891-1986. He enlisted at Norwich on 15/10/1914 in 4th. Battalion the Norfolk Regiment, army no. 1595. Served in the Norfolk's 10th (Reserve) Battalion as a sergeant musketry instructor until embarking as CSM with a draft of 105 men for India in May 1916. After landing immediately re-deployed to Mesoptamia where disembarked at Basra on 30/06/1916 to reinforce the 2nd. Norfolks serving with the 14th. Indian Division, part of General Maudes's 'Tigris Force' charged with re-taking Kut-al-Amara from the Turks and proceeding to Baghdad. Main action was the assault crossing of the River Tigris at the Shumran Bend on 22/23 February 1917. My father lost 11 of the 18 men in his section (I have his manuscript field roll call) but otherwise had a successful day capturing 400 Turks. Medals awarded: the standard issue British War Medal 1914-18 and Allied Victory Medal (nothing for 'Mespot'). Highest rank: staff sergeant, acting CSM. Re-enlisted in 1918 in India (until 1921) with new army number 72724.

Medals Gone Missing is seeking a direct descendant of Alexander Filip KUFNER who originated from MRAMORAK, YUGOSLAVIA (due to boundary changes it is now in Serbia). He travelled to Australia in 1934 and found himself in the Shoal Bay (Nelsons Bay area), New South Wales. He was a co-founder of the Shoal Bay Country Club. This club was taken over by the military when the war in the Pacific began. He enlisted into the AIF and served during the war years. At the cessation of the hostilities, the Country Club was returned to Alex Kufners who upon his discharge from the AIF and together with R Browne, refurbished the club with compensation monies received from the military. They reopened the Country Club as a guest house. Any person who may know of a descendant of Alexander KUFNER is asked to contact us.

George was a member of the Boy Scout movement before the Second World War and joined the RAF soon after leaving cadets. He served at RAF Bassingbourn and this location is a former Royal Air Force station located in Cambridgeshire approximately 3 mi (5 km) north of Royston, Hertfordshire and 11 mi (18 km) south west of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. George Stewart BELL served as an instructor on Fraser Nash turrets and Boulton Paul Type 'F' turrets during the war. Enlistment date:- 10 April 1910 (subsequently it is believed he was posthumously awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal). Enlistment age 18 years and 10 months. Next of Kin: Mother, Annie Jopp McGUNIGAL, 55 Orchard Street, Aberdeen. It is believed a sibling who received the medals after William's death has travelled to Australia.
