1914-1915 Star Medal Trio

Service No: 201

Unit No: 4

Corps/Service: Mounted/ Lighthorse/ Cavalry

Country: Australia
I am searching for the missing First World War medals of my great grandfather, Private Alfred Ernest SINCLAIR who served with the 4th Light Horse Regiment. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that he left Melbourne on the 19th of October, 1914 aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18). His original service number was 201, however he was wounded at Gallipoli and invalided home. He later re-enlisted and was sent overseas a second time, with the service number 4125. My dad had these World War 1 medals displayed in his home on the Gold Coast back in the 1990's. However the medals have been missing for some time now. Also missing are the medals from my grandpa on the other side of my family. They are Second World War medals awarded to R.J.Moore , who was in the RAAF Service number 24782. They are listed under a seperate listing and also my Great Grandpa J.C.MOORE who was in the 1st light horse service number 3068. He was born in Inverell and a descendant of the Moore's of Castle Hill, Sydney (since 1783) as I am. Maybe oneday somebody will find them and give us an opportunity to get them back home to us. My dad is getting on and has always regretted their loss.

Q.S.A + World War 1 Pair

Service No: 1015

Unit No: 5

Corps/Service: Railway

Country: Australia
I am searching for the Boer War (1899 - 1901 South Africa war) Service medal (Queen's South Africa Medal) and First World War medals (Britsh War Medal + Victory Medal) of Corporal Percy Henry DUNN. Percy was born in Strathalbyn, South Australia and moved to Western Australia for work when he was 18. He enlisted with the 6th (Mounted Infantry) Contingent from Western Australia in 1901 and set sail for the Boer War in South Africa . He was promoted to Corporal on the 13th of January, 1902. The bars on his Q.S.A are 'South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, Orange Free State and Transvaal'. During this time Percy made friends with Joseph Greer and they returned to WA in 1902 and continued to work together on the Western Australian Railways. When the Great War broke out both men enlisted together into the Special Draft of the Railway Unit and the First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that they left Fremantle on the 29th of January, 1917 aboard HMAT Militiades (A28). Percy would serve with the 5th Broad Gauge Railway Unit in France. At this point Percy was 38 years old and Joseph was 43. His service number during World War One was 1015 and there is a duplicate listing for his missing war medals under his Boer War service number of 497. After the war Percy moved back to SA and settled in Nangwarry where he was the first secretary of the new RSL. He was an active member of the community working with the timber industry in his later years. Apparently he tried to enlist again for WW2 but they said Mr Dunn, I think you have done your bit for the country and was turned away.Percy marched every year until his death in 1948. His medals were last seen in Mount Gambier, South Australia in the 1950's and my family would be most grateful to have them returned to us. If anyone has any knowledge of Joseph Greer no 931 that would help to build on the info i have. I have original photo of Percy and Joseph together in 1917.
