Advanced Search

  • Name: Entering SURNAME only should be sufficient to achieve a result. Initials only of first names, seperated by full stops may be entered. No spaces between the start of the Surname and the full stops: example: J.F.MCGRATH or C.H.TRAYNOR. Apostrophie must be entered e.g. O'REILLY
  • Serial Number: Search by serial number. This is always the best way to find a particular person, but bear in mind that sometimes for various reasons, a serial number may have been changed.
  • Country: Find all medals and militaria based on country
  • Corps: Search by Corps or Service only: i.e. Artillery, Mounted (this includes Cavalry & Lighthorse) Merchant Navy, Air Force, Armoured etc.
  • Unit Number: Enter the unit number ONLY - no other details. i.e. to find all items under the 10th Lighthorse Regiment - simply type in the number 10. If searching for a composite unit such as the 55/53rd Militia Battalion (Australian Military Forces) - simply type in 55/53. NOTE: a number only will yield results for ALL countries.

1914-1915 Star Medal Trio

Service No: 3378

Unit No: 1

Corps/Service: Infantry

Country: Australia
I am searching for my great grand uncle's missing war service medals. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that he boarded HMAT Themistocles at Sydney on the 5th of October, 1915. He formed part of the 1st Battalion, 11th Reinforcements. James Albert LEWIS was killed in action in France on 5/11/1916 after initial reports of sightings of him being injured. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records indicate that he has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial. He was the son of Leo John LEWIS and Annie LEWIS of Mornbrie Street, South Granville. We have receipts signed by his father Leo Lewis, so we know our family definitely received these medals. They have not been seen by anyone in our family for quite some years so we are unsure of what happened to them.

1914-1915 Star Medal Trio

Service No: 255

Unit No: 17

Corps/Service: Infantry

Country: Australia
I am looking for my relatives lost medals. Arthur Jackson LEESE. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that he left Sydney on the 12th of May, 1915 aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) with the 17th Infantry Battalion. At this time, he was serving under the serial number of 255, however at some time, his serial number was altered to 4049 and this is reflected in his service record on the National Archives of Australia file. The change was possibly when he was transferred to the 4th F.C.E (Field Company Engineers) Subsequently, I have duplicated this request under both service numbers, as I am not sure what numbers are stamped on each individual war medal. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal. The medals were lost in a recent removal and my family would be very grateful for their return, should somebody have found them.
