My great grandmother Catherine Devitt nee Stokes died naturally in her rocking chair on her veranda at Red Hill. The next morning my Grandmother and 10 year old mother came to visit and found her with the house open all night. It was obvious someone had been in and the medals and "dead man's penny" were missing from the mantlepiece. Last year whilst researching on ebay dead man's penny regards Toowong Cemetery where some are imbedded in monuments and occasionally prised out and stolen to my surprise Francis Patrick Devitt's name came up in a sale in August 2013 in Victoria. The seller refused to give my details to the buyer so that I might buy them back for the family. His brother (my grandfather) was the only one of 4 to survive and have children and apart from my offspring there is only my sister and I left. It would be nice to purchase them back for the family.
