J.ANTONEY
First World War Victory Medal
Service No: 1794
Unit No: 34
Corps/Service: Infantry
Country: Australia
I wish to make contact with the descendants of Driver James ANTHONEY (also recorded as ANTONEY on his records) who embarked from Australia on the 12th of August, 1916 as part of the 43rd Infantry Battalion, AIF. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, he boarded HMAT Ballarat from Port Adelaide. I have this soldier's World War 1 Victory Medal and would like to have it returned to his family. This medal will only be returned to a descendant upon proof of relationship and is NOT FOR GENERAL SALE. Many of the records kept in this soldiers's personnel file records his surname as ANTONEY (without the letter 'H') but his name may in fact be spelt ANTHONEY and so a duplicate listing has been made with this detail. He was born in Mannum, South Australia and was a farmer before the war.

Death Plaque a.k.a Memorial Plaque
Service No: 1032
Unit No: 16
Corps/Service: Country:
I am searching for the First World War Death Plaque (colloquially called a Dead Man's Penny) of Private Harry Herbert DAVIS. He was born in Omeo, Gippsland in 1893. Harry enlisted at Morphettville in South Australia with his younger brother George. Both brothers were assigned to the 16th Battalion, AIF and brothers landed at Gallipoli together. Sadly, his younger George was killed in action just one week after the landing. Harry died of wounds on the 5th June, 1915. The Commonwealt War Graves Commission records that he has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. I have also listed his war medals which are missing. They consist of the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal & Victory Medal. Any assistance that you may be able to give in helping our family to recover these war medals and Death Plaque would be greatly appreciated.

1914-1915 Star Medal Trio
Service No: 1031
Unit No: 16
Corps/Service: Infantry
Country: Australia
I am searching for the First World War medals of Private George DAVIS who was born in Victoria in 1896. The missing war medals are the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He enlisted at Morphettville SA in 1914 with his brother, Harry Herbert Davis. These two brothers enlisted together and have consecutive service numbers. The First World War Embarkation Roll indicates that both brothers boarded HMAT Ceramic on the 22nd of December, 1914 from Port Melbourne. Both brothers were assigned to the 16th Infantry Battalion. Both brothers landed at Gallipoli and sadly, George was killed in action one week after the landing on the 2nd June, 1915. The family tragedy continued when Harry died of wounds one month later. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) records that like his brother, George has no grave and his name is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. I have also listed George's Memorial Plaque (Death Plaque) in a bid to have these items located and hopefully, returned to our family.
