Missing Medals

My father, Victor Harold SCHROEDER, was born on 7 May 1912, and lived his early years in Norwood, South Australia, before moving to Cheltenham, South Australia until his passing in 2006. Sapper Victor Harold SCHROEDER served with '14 Australian Workshops & Parks Squadron' with Australian Imperial Force from 21 June 1941 to 30 June 1947, and Interim Army from 1 July 1947 to 10 June 1948. Enlisted in Australian Regular Army Special Reserve at Hiro Japan on 11 June 1948, and served in Japan for 757 days. According to the World War Two Nominal Roll, he discharged from Australian Military Forces 6 January 1961. Certificate of Discharge states that he was awarded the 1939-1945 War Medal, however he should also have been entitled to the 1939-1945 Australia Service Medal and possibly the 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal and the 1945-1975 Australia Service Medal. Also, the World War Two Nominal Roll indicates that he had three different service numbers allocated to him during his military service. They are the AIF number SX13331, 49012 and 4648, so there are duplicate listings on the Medals Gone Missing website under all three service numbers. Before my father died in 2006, he said the he gave his medals to 'a collector' who was known to him. My recollection is that the collector lived in Adelaide, South Australia.

I am searching for the missing First World War medals (1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal) of Private William Henry WILLIAMS. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, he boarded HMAT Ceramic (A40) on the 25th June, 1915 at Port Sydney. At this time, he was allocated to the 18th Infantry Battalion, AIF. He served at Gallipoli (fought in the battle of Hill 60 during the August offensive) and as such, is entitled to the Gallipoli Medallion. Any information regarding these missing medals would be very much appreciated.

Seeking the missing First World War Medal (British War Medal) of my grandfather, George Christopher HUTCHINSON who was from Bondi in New South Wales. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, George Christopher HUTCHINSON boarded the S.S. Gaika at Port Sydney on the 30th July, 1918 - having enlisted only the month before in June 1918. Subsequently, the fighting ceased as a result of the armistice and he did not see active service, resulting in his only entitlement being the British War Medal. The missing British War Medal is last known to have been in the Toukley area of NSW Australia in the early 2000s, in the possession of his late son Sydney. Very important to his family as a way of remembering Pop.

Am looking for my husbands great great uncle's First World War medals which are missing. His name was Peter LEITCH and he served with the 25th Infantry Battalion, AIF. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, Peter LEITCH boarded HMAT Commonwealth (A73) on the 28 March, 1916 at port Brisbane. As a result, Peter LEITCH was only entitled to the British War Medal and the Victory Medal which is known as the World War 1 pair. He was outside the period of eligibility for the 1914-1915 Star. His mother told me that someone once rang her to drop them off to her, but never showed. Would love for these missing medals to be returned as my husband is now in the army himself.

Frederick FRANCIS was killed in France 1915, while serving in the 2nd Battalion of the ROYAL WEST SURREY REGIMENT. According to the C.W.G.C (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) records, the body of Frederick FRANCIS could not be found and his name is recorded on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais in France. The family would dearly love to be re-united with these items, as had been the case through the generations. Payment for such is expected.

I am searching for the First World War medals of my grandfather, Thomas Vincent DWYER. Tom's medals went missing after Tom died, sometime after 1960. Being his grandson, I would love to have these medals back in the family. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, Thomas Vincent DWYER boarded HMAT Aeneas (A60) at port Brisbane on the 29 June, 1915. At this time, he was serving with the 26 Infantry Battalion but later transferred to the 4th Machine Gun Company. Any assistance in helping my family to recover these missing medals would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for the First World War medals (1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal) awarded to Douglas Victor CHOULES. These medals had the ribbons attached and were swing mounted on a pin for wearing together. Also with the medals may be the Gallipolli Medal in its case. Douglas Victor CHOULES served with the 11th Infantry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, he boarded HMAT Ascanius (A11) at port Fremantle on the 2nd November, 1914.

We are looking for a series of 7 medals which were awarded to my grandfather, Alexander KINNAIRD. These missing medals include the Military Medal, MBE or Member of the British Empire (military), Burma Star, Defence and the 1939-1945 War Medal, RAF LS (Royal Air Force Long Service Medal), GC & G VI R medals, all in original boxes with a photograph of my grandfather outside Buckingham Palace - as a family we would like to give these medals and other information we have to the Air Sea Rescue Museum.

I am searching for the Memorial Plaque (colloquially known as a "Dead Man's Penny" or Death Plaque) which was commissioned in memory of George Redman FEATHERSTONE. George is my great uncle and was a part of the 24th Machine Gun Company of the Australian Machinegun Corps. This Memorial Plaque was lost when my great garndmother passed away in 1950. I have my great uncle's service medals and would dearly love to have the death plaque in the family as well. According to the CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) records, he was killed in action on the 19th October, 1917 and lies buried at Bedford House Cemetery, in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. George Redman FEATHERSTONE was the son of William Frederick and Emily Elizabeth Featherstone, of "Redmayne," White Horse Rd., Mitcham, Victoria, Australia. Born at Hastings, Sussex, England.
