Medals Gone Missing is attempting to locate the direct descendants of Driver Edward John SMITH who served in the AIF (Australian Imperial Force) during the Great War. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, Edward John SMITH embarked from Port Melbourne on 30 October, 1917 aboard HMAT Aeneas. At this time, he held the designation of Mechanical Transport Driver and his service number was 15188. Medals Gone Missing is searching for the family of Charles REES who served in the 7th Light Horse Regiment, AIF (Australian Imperial Force). According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, Charles REES boarded HMAT Ajana (A31) on the 19th December, 1914 at Port Sydney.

CRITERIA FOR AWARD The wound badge was issued in three classes: Black , silver and gold . The appearance of the badges was identical with the exeption of the color. At the start the badge was issued to military personnel from all branches. As the war progressed and the allied bombing campaigns intensified the award was extended to cover civilian personnel who were injured during the attacks. This change came about by order of Dr Goebbels in 1943.

Second World War Medals (Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal & 1939-1945 Australia Service Medal) of Driver James PITHER (Service Number NX66582) who served with the 2/103 Australian General Transport Company. The World War Two Nominal Roll indicates that he was born on the 17th of November, 1908 at Dubbo in New South Wales. He enlisted into the Second AIF on the 12th of December, 1940 and discharged on the 17th of January, 1946. Amazingly we purchased a 1903 Pattern water bottle carrier which was issued to James PITHER on ebay for $24 in August 2008. So when these medals appeared on ebay in April 2014, Medals Gone Missing purchased them as well, in the hope that his family is seeking their return. The war medals and waterbottle are NOT FOR GENERAL SALE. Will be sold to family only upon proof of relationship.

Medals Gone Missing is searching for the descendants of Edgar ANDERSON who served with the 12th Infantry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force. Edgar was born in Campbelltown, Tasmania circa 1892. He enlisted into the AIF very early in the war and was allocated to the 12th Battalion which was a composite, South Australian / Tasmanian unit. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, Edgar ANDERSON boarded HMAT Themistocles (A32) at Port Melbourne on 22 December, 1914 for overseas service. It is possible that he was a first day lander at Gallipoli. Edgar served on the Gallipoli Peninsula until September when he was evacuated due to illness. He later served in France and survived the war. As a result of his war service, Edgar ANDERSON was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Sergeant Charles Herbert THOMPSON was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) serving in a Canadian Squadron. Born in Sydney Australia, he sadly was killed in action on 28 August, 1942 over Hanover, Germany. I believe this medal was given to my father as a token of remembrance of his best friend. I wish to have medal returned to the family of Charles Herbert Thompson. Contact 0420 956 472 or the Medals Gone Missing Administrator via this website. The motto of his squadron was: "For freedom". No. 408 Squadron was formed at Lindholme, Yorkshire on 24th June 1941, and was the second of the many Royal Canadian Air Force bomber squadrons which served overseas in the Second World War. The squadron took part in the first 1,000-bomber raid on Germany, flew many missions against naval and industrial targets, and played an active part in Gardening (minelaying) for victory. Beginning operations with Hampdens in 1941, No. 408 was given Halifaxes towards the end of the following year and later (August 1943) Lancaster IIs. In the summer of 1944 it returned to Halifaxes and flew them for the rest of the war. In all, No. 408 flew 4,610 sorties with Hampdens, Lancasters and Halifaxes and gained more than 210 awards, including 160 DFCs and over 30 Distinguished Flying Medals.

Cathy Worthington of Australia has in her possession, a First World War Victory Medal which was awarded to Corporal F.J. JEFFERYS. The medal is stamped 'M.T.C' which apparantly stands for Miscellaneous Trades Company. The medal was found in a collection of family heirlooms and does not belong to her ancestry. Cathy does not wish to sell the medal, but would like to re-unite it with his descendants in time for the Centenary of the First World War. If you are a descendant of Corporal F.J. The 1939-1945 Star & Pacific Star awarded to NX80241 Maurice Henry GLASER were sold via ebay on the 29th July, 2012. Maurice Henry GLASER was born on the 13th June, 1908 at Melbourne in Victoria. According to the World War Two Nominal Roll, he enlisted into the Second AIF on the 27th December, 1941 and discharged on the 4th January, 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. At this time, Maurice was serving with the 2/1 Australian Guard Regiment. Any assistance in helping me to recover my grandfather's missing war medals or purchase them back for my family would be very much appreciated. We have no idea as to how they left their family and ended up for sale on ebay. We respect that they were legally purchased by the new owner, but hope that perhaps consideration will be given for us to recover them. Thank you.

A missing First World War medal awarded to Sapper Clement Charles ALLEN has been found and it is the wish of these wonderful people that the medal be returned to his descendants. The British War Medal was awarded to Sapper ALLEN who served with the 2 Signal Company (2nd Division Sig Coy) of the Australian Imperial Force. His service number was 15931 and according to the First World War Embarkation Roll, he boarded HMAT Ulysses (A38) at Port Melbourne on the 25th October, 1916. Clement's next of kin is recorded on his service record on hand at the National Archives of Australia, as being Florence Emily Maud ALLEN. At the time of Clement's enlistment, she resided at Scarborough Street Glenelg in South Australia. She later moved to Maturin Road in Glenelg. Thankfully, Clement Charles ALLEN survived the First World War and returned to Australia during July 1919. First World War Medals (1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal & Meritorious Service Medal) awarded to 96239 Lance Corporal (later Acting Serjeant) T. SUTTON of the Royal Engineers. The Meritorious Service Medal is impressed:- 96239 CPL - A-SJT. T. SUTTON. R.E. These medals were offered for sale on the open market, but failed to sell on the 2nd July, 2013.
