Advanced Search

  • Name: Entering SURNAME only should be sufficient to achieve a result. Initials only of first names, seperated by full stops may be entered. No spaces between the start of the Surname and the full stops: example: J.F.MCGRATH or C.H.TRAYNOR. Apostrophie must be entered e.g. O'REILLY
  • Serial Number: Search by serial number. This is always the best way to find a particular person, but bear in mind that sometimes for various reasons, a serial number may have been changed.
  • Country: Find all medals and militaria based on country
  • Corps: Search by Corps or Service only: i.e. Artillery, Mounted (this includes Cavalry & Lighthorse) Merchant Navy, Air Force, Armoured etc.
  • Unit Number: Enter the unit number ONLY - no other details. i.e. to find all items under the 10th Lighthorse Regiment - simply type in the number 10. If searching for a composite unit such as the 55/53rd Militia Battalion (Australian Military Forces) - simply type in 55/53. NOTE: a number only will yield results for ALL countries.

Queen's S.A. Medal + WW1 Trio

Service No: 109

Unit No: 3

Corps/Service: Mounted/ Lighthorse/ Cavalry

Country: Australia
I am searching for the Boer War medal and First World War medals of my grandfather, Thomas James BYRNE. The have gone missing from the family & would dearly love to be reunited with my grandfathers medals. The medal set consists of the QSA (Queen's South Africa Medal) and the World War One trio (1914-1915 Star, British War Medal + Victory Medal). My grandfather served with the 3rd West Australian Bushmen Contingent during the Boer war and his service number was 109. The QSA should have the 5 bars:- Rhodesia,Orange Free state, Transvaal, Cape Colony and South Africa 1901. Thomas James BYRNE later served with the 10th Australian Light Horse Regiment with the very low service number of 27. He was in action at Gallipoli and was WIA (wounded in action) at The Nek on the 7th August 1915, and returned to Australia. Any assistance to help me find these missing war medals would be greatly appreciated. I have listed the medals under both his Boer War service number and his First World War service number.
