I am searching for the missing Pilot's Logbook which was issued to my husband, Flying Officer John GATES who was an Australian fighter pilot during World War Two. He flew with 137 Squadron in the United Kingdom. He was shot down over Germany and was made a prisoner of war. His pilot’s log book, two telegrams, one saying that he was missing and the other saying that he was a Prisoner Of War in Germany were contained in a blue cloth covered box which appears to have been accidentilly sold in an estate sale without my knowledge. The log book was John’s most treasured possession and I am devastated that it may be lost to our family. I understand that things such as this are valuable to collectors, but they are priceless to me and my children and I would very much appreciate it if it could be returned, along with their grandfather's First World War medals which have also been listed on this site. I am very genuine and would welcome any form of contact from whoever may have my husband's log book and telegrams. Yours sincerely, Helen Gates.

1914-1915 Star Medal Trio
Service No: 115
Unit No: 1
Corps/Service: Mounted/ Lighthorse/ Cavalry
Country: Australia
I am searching for the missing war medals of my father-in-law and grandfather to my children, Private Cecil John GATES who served with the 1st Light Horse Regiment, AIF during the Great War. The medals consist of the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Gallipoli Star and Efficiency Medal. I have not seen them since I was a young boy, however I believe that they were stored in a blue, cloth covered box. Apart from the missing war medals, there were a number of photographs of my grandfather and these are the only photos which we had of him. My family believes that the box may have been accidentilly sold during an estate sale, many years ago. In particular, my grandmother is desperate to get these medals back and is upset that they have left our family. Whilst I understand that these type of things are now very collectable and sought after, we would very much appreciate the oppertunity to purchase them back and can assure you that we are genuine. Any assistance in helping us to recover these missing war medals is greatly appreciated.
