V.A.BOWMAN
Medal Type: WW1 - 1914-1915 Star Medal Trio
Service No: 2787
Unit No: 9
Corps/Service:
Infantry
Country: Australia
I am searching for the missing First World War Medals of my great uncle, Vincent Ambrose BOWMAN who was born near Bodalla but enlisted into the AIF (Australian Imperial Force) at Enoggera in Queensland. Hence his allocation to the 9th Battalion. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, he boarded HMAT Ayrshire (A33) at Port Sydney and departed Australia on 1 September, 1915. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star (number 43), British War Medal (number 6001) and Victory medal (number 5930). Interestingly Vincent BOWMAN was once charged and awarded 72 hours Field Punishment for the offence of wilfully damaging army property; when he removed the lining from a Brodie pattern helmet and used it as a wash basin. Any assistance in helping my family to recover these lost war service medals would be appreciated. We would very much like to commemorate his service for the Centenary of the First World War.
I have recently found his grave. He is burried with his wife Muriel. They are in a unmarked grave in the Anzac section of the Lutwych cemetry. Another reason to find his medals & recognise his service.
