Medal Type: Other Medal Type - Military Medal

Service No: 2776
Unit No: 60th battalion

Corps/Service:
Infantry

Country: Australia
My great grandfather, David Horace WHINFIELD was awarded the Military Medal for bravery while posted with the Australian 60th Battalion in April 1918. According to the First World War Embarkation Roll, David Horace WHINFIELD boarded HMAT Nestor (A71) at Port Melbourne on 2 October, 1916. The medal he received was passed to my uncle and has not bee seen around 1990. The medal set, which includes the British War Medal and Victory Medal were last known to be in the area of Werribee, Victoria, Australia. After reading my great grandfathers diaries that he kept during the war I am attempting to see if the medal set is out there somewhere out of hope I can get it back to keep the legacy and memory of his inspiring actions for future generations of my family. If anyone out there has or had these medals in their possession please contact me.

The missing medals consist of the 1914 Star (also known colloquially as the Mons Star) the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. We're not sure if all three medals were sold together. We suspect that one may have gone missing some time ago and that two were sold in 2013/14 but we are unable to know for sure. My Aunt is in her 80's and we would like to get the medals back for her.
