First World War medal (1914-1915 Star) awarded to Gunner H. GRIFFITHS whose service number was 41600. He served in the R.G.A. (Royal Garrison Artillery) during the Great War. This medal was listed as having been sold on the open market on the 13th of July, 2011. However it was then placed on ebay for sale on the 25th of July, 2011. It is not known if the first sale was via ebay and perhaps the winning bidder failed to complete the transaction? Australian Second World War Victory Medallion for H.M.A.S Sydney issued for the encounter with the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni. This medallion was awarded to Ordinary Seaman Ronald Malcolm Ross McDONALD whose service number was 23477. According to the World War Two Nominal Roll, Ronal Malcolm Ross McDONALD was born at Ridgley, Tasmania on the 5th of September, 1922. Ronald Malcolm Ross McDonald enlisted into the RAN on the 9th August,1939 and discharged SNLR on the 10th November, 1941 following 30 days dentention. This medal was awarded to Sydney crew members following the sinking of the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni by HMAS Sydney in the Mediterranean in July 1940. It is extremely rare, most were lost with the ship when she was sunk on 19th Nov 1941 by the German raider Kormoran in the Indian Ocean. Ordinary seaman McDonald did not share the fate of this gallant ship as he was discharged only nine days before this action and hence this medal has survived. This medallion is currently for sale on ebay (as of 29/08/2011) for $4,950.00 AUD. Ebay number 380365261611.

The World War Two Nominal Roll indicates that he enlisted into the AIF on the 24th of Ocober, 1939 and discharged on the 14th of November, 1942. Posting on discharge was the 1 Boring Section, Royal Australian Engineers. His next of kin was Mary McLEARY. Second World War medals (1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, 1939-1945 Australia Service Medal) awarded to Gunner Leslie Thomas TANNER who was born on the 5th of January, 1920 at North Sydney in New South Wales. According to the World War Two Nominal Roll, he enlisted into the AIF on the 21st of May, 1940 and was allocated the Service Number NX16035. His next of kin was Bert TANNER. Leslie Thomas TANNER saw service against Rommel in Africa and was one of the 'Rats of Tobruk'. He was sent back to Australia and it is believed that he saw service in New Guinea on the Kokoda Trail. He was wounded in action and sadly he succumbed to his wounds and died on the 4th December, 1943 whilst serving with the 2/6th Field Regiment. According to the CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission, he lies buried at the Lae War Cemetery. He was the son of Son of Bertie and Florence Emma Tanner, of North Sydney, New South Wales. These medals were offered for sale on the open market but failed to sell on the 25th of May, 2011.
