Military Medal and 1914-1915 Star trio awarded to Frank DWYER whose servicie number was 192. An original member of the Australian 8th Battalion AIF. A Gallipoli first day lander, later wounded in action in France, court martialled for letting a gun off in a cafe, won the Military Medal (MM) for 11th February 1917 as written up in Ron Austin's book, 'Cobbers in Khaki', on page 142 as follows. Has a photo also as seen in item pictures. On the Seigfreid line, after relieving the 50th Battalion on 23rd February. (Siegfried line known to Aussies as the Hindenburg line). On the night of the 24th February, although flares had been fired from the German held Bayonet trench, patrols pushed out 700 yards and found the trench to be deserted. Once the trench had been occupied, the battalion signallers ran a line out to Bayonet trench, whereupon the the patrols advanced towards Barley Trench and Luisenof Farm. The patrol that had to carry out a reconnaissance of Bayonet and Pork Trenches on the night of 24th February encountered thick enemy wire. Corporal Frank Dwyer found a Sally port through the wire and entered the enemy trench. The enemy fired flares which assisted Dwyer and his patrol to occupy the trench. Later on at Bailey Trench, Dwyer's section was first into the entrance and when fired upon by an enemy strong post, Dwyer led his man in a courageous attack which quickly captured the enemy post. Service No: 323

Unit No: 5th South Australian Imperial Bushmen

Corps/Service: Mounted/ Lighthorse/ Cavalry

Country: Australia

Sale Price: $0

My family is searching for any medals which may relate to the service of Joseph BROWN during the Boer War. This man was my grandfather, who was classed as a “colt breaker” and came from a humble farming family at Pinery in South Australia. He was only 21 when he enlisted in the 5th Imperial Bushmen. He was captured near Kaffirstaad but managed to steal a horse from the Boers and was wounded whilst escaping. He returned to Australia but unfortunately decided to enlist later in the 3rd Light Horse for service during the 1914-1918 war and was killed at Gallipoli in June 1915. My father was only 5 years old at the time of Joseph's death. My family has Joseph's First World War Medals however his Boer War entitlement is missing. Any assistance to help us reunite his medals would be greatly appreciated.
